Long day today. 500 miles to Elko. We took a longer route to avoid retracing our steps, which would be a crime! From Tonopah we took rt 6 to Ely, then rt 50 (“The Loneliest Road in America”) to Eureka, rt 278 to Elko. We stopped at the Station Casino in Tonopah for a nice lunch.
When we left Death Valley the temperatures were upper 60s. We made a brief stop at ghost town Ryholite, with it bizarre sculpture garden. As we went up in altitude it got cooler and cooler. We spent most of the afternoon in the mid 30s, sun shining.
We arrived in Elko about 6:30 and had dinner at the Stockman before checking into our Comfort Inn.
Driving across the wilds of Nevada is interesting. Miles and miles of good, straight roads, interspersed with curvy roads up and over several passes over 7000'. And virtually no traffic is an added bonus. Mountain views in all directions. 75 mph all the while!
